Management training updateThe local management team (with the exception of Colin who will be completing the course on a separate schedule due to his US commitments) has almost completed the first module of the Graduate Certificate in Management course at AIM. A total of 4 modules will be completed over the next 15 months. Each module consists of 4 days class work and a written assignment. The first module is Managing, Leading & Development People. We have now completed our 4 days of class time, and our assignment is due in the next couple of weeks. Our assignment is to write a Personal Development Plan (PDP). The basic premise of the course was that to be a great manager/leader of people, you have to be great at managing yourself. And the PDP is a very personal document that is meant to make you look closely at yourself, at your values, your competencies, and set some action plans for your development over the coming 3-5 years. A good summary of the module is on the wiki page here. I also created here a set of further wiki pages to try and capture some of the important summary points (there are over 700 pages of text book reading). We want to be great managers and leaders. Part of that is getting feedback and listening. If you want to talk to your direct manager or me about our management styles, coaching, culture, reward programs, learning, purpose etc. – things that may have not been that easy to talk about before – then that is going to be perfectly OK to do so.
