NiUG Discovery Conference - day 1 - workshops

Following on from the success of the hands-on workshops at the 2006 Discovery conference, the NiUG committee expanded on the concept and offered a whole day of hands-on workshops for the first day of the 2007 Discovery conference. Just under 50 laptops were hired and installed into 2 conference rooms; this alone was a big job for the committee taking a good part of Tuesday to load each of the laptops from portable hard drives with iMIS VMWare images and a 6am start on Wednesday once the rooms were available.

4 workshops ran on the Wednesday (10th October):

  • MS Reporting Services (Mike Sorel, CodeWorthy www.codeworthy.com.au)
  • Introduction to IQA (Greg McLeod, ASI)
  • Executive/Managment Reporting using iMIS Analytics (Jay McCormack, ASI)
  • Interfacing with MS Office - Excel & Access (Ron Bonham, Cycling Australia)

Each workshop was a half-day, and in most cases 2 participants were sharing a single notebook PC.

I heard a lot of great feedback from each of the sessions, and reminded me to further push iMIS training and the SMART Customer program, which we still need to formally launch.

After the workshops completed, there was an opening cocktail reception in the main lobby which was a great chance for me to meet a lot of new faces. Final attendance numbers were 97 delegates - a new record!

After the cocktail reception, I hosted the international guests for dinner, and Colin hosted a number of customers.
